This series of works on paper is a continuation with my fascination with how the media presented the "American Dream" through the 1960s, 70's and even early 80s in pop culture and mass media outlets. The idyllic life of shopping, everyone owning a home, manicured lawn, shopping, and a life unburdened by the realities that surrounded anyone growing up in a suburban American neighborhood at the time.
The Title - "We Sell This Dream" was taken from a 1968 ad in Life Magazine promoting a  new suburban subdivision. Each piece is simply titled "We Sell This Dream" - (1 through 17)
The pieces have a distorted, and glitched treatment that alters the reality of the subject in the frame. Faces are obscured to help focus on the action that is taking place. The hand drawn lines and painted textures help establish visual tension and create a ground plane for the subject to live within. The pastels and bright color pallets hint at the way the environment was presented.
Each piece is a single work on paper. The original file has been struck making each of these a one of a kind work that can not be reproduced. Each piece is a 24x24 inch image ion a 30x30 inch sheet of 200 gsm archival paper signed and titled on the reverse side in graphite.
